Lawrence is proud to be a founding member of the Appleton – Kurgan sister cities program. The organization is now incredibly diverse and active, developing programs in healthcare, policing, education, civic development, and disarmament.

In 1991, Lawrence University and Kurgan State University signed accords of cooperation. Since that time, approximately 40 students have participated in one for one exchanges where each student directly enrolls in the other school: fifteen faculty members have spent time teaching, visiting, and learning at the other institution, and fourteen Lawrentians have taught English at KSU the year after graduation.

Read the Accords of Cooperation signed most recently by Lawrence University president Jill Beck and Rector Oleg Ivanovich Bukhtoyarov in 2008.
