This step in the model represents the awareness and exploration stage of the career planning process. It is here that we ask questions like: What do I do well? What do I like to do? What am I interested in? What is important to me? Who would I like to work with and for? Think of this stage as "taking inventory" of yourself in a structured way. A closer examination of the model shows that self-assessment has an outer circle. Since careers do not operate independently of your life we consider your interests, motivations, needs, values and skills in the context of your relationships, financial responsibilities, health, goals and priorities, leisure activities and spirituality.
While everyone processes this model in different ways and at their own pace, the self assessment step serves as the foundation for occupational assessment and career implementation.
