Job Search Strategies

Sponsored by campus career centers and private companies to create multiple-connection opportunities for employers and candidates to connect.

What you will need:
  • A career fair (we can help you find these).
  • Appropriate interview attire.
  • Multiple copies of résumés
  • Preferred: customized résumé (especially if you have a company with whom you want to apply in particular).
  • Your introduction:
    • Your name
    • Your class
    • Your major
    • When you will be graduating
    • Why you are talking to them
What you will do:
  • Research the career fair and the organizations that interest you in particular. Most career fairs have on-line information and have direct links to the organizations that will be attending.
  • To gain confidence, start with a few employers who interest you but are not your top choices. Use a firm handshake to introduce yourself.
  • When you are feeling focused and articulate, go for your top choices.
  • Ask recruiters for their business card - jot down key information on the back.
  • One-two dates later, follow up with a thank-you letter. Include key points from your notes.
