- Biology Club
-
- Description
- The Lawrence University Biology Club is a student organization on campus for anyone interested in any field of biology. The club will be managed by its officers, consisting of at least a president and secretary, and will be supervised by a faculty advisor. With this in mind, it is important for the club to promote participation by all of its members regardless of their interests or experience. The goal of the club is to enhance its members' education of biology by providing extracurricular opportunities. The club will achieve this goal by bringing in guest speakers, attending off campus events, and participating in philanthropy. some examples of appropriate speakers include medical students, medical doctors, PhD candidates, professors, and researchers. The club should also attend off campus events when appropriate. These events can range from touring graduate schools, visiting zoological facilities or attending conferences pertaining to biological research. The club should also attempt to make a positive impact in the community. This may include raising money for a biology related charity or hosting a session at youth events such as Lawrence University Science Day. the club should be aware of its members' interest. If there is a high premedical contigency, the club should try to cater to those members by providing lots of opportunities directly associated with medicine. This being said, the club should not disregard its other members or their interests and it should provide a divers range of opportunities in all fields and disciplines with of biology. Lastly, the club should collaborate with other groups when appropriate, such as working with AMSA and the premedical committee or to provide opportunities unique to medicine. It may also be important to support CADY in arranging LU Science Day.

Our volunteers reach out - apply makeup - talk to them - listen to them - embrace them - let them know they are beautiful, and worthy of their time. Our volunteers become the voices for these women, sharing stories with their peers after each GlamourGals makeover.

We maintain an active membership with nationals, and are required to submit weekly reports detailing our content, publicity and ongoing vision for our branch. We seek to provide opportunity for Lawrence students to become active members of a national community of young collegiate women by contributing to the site in a number of ways. Each writer is curious about pop-culture, style, and the world around them. Our stories are intended to be catchy, relatable anecdotes about what is happening in the "now." Ideal number of staff for the Her Campus Lawrence group would be 10-15 members.

- Lawrence University Community Council is the student governing body at Lawrence. The council has authority to legislate policies affecting non-curricular campus concerns. The president and vice president are elected through all-campus elections in which students and faculty may vote. Cabinet members are appointed by the president and vice president subject to approval by the council. Residence halls, theme and group houses, and off-campus students have representation on the council through 14 representatives elected by students within defined constituencies. Faculty members collectively appoint four representatives. The General Council usually meets bi-weekly throughout the academic year. Members serve on the council and also on one of several standing committees, including the Finance Committee, Steering Committee, and Polling, Elections, and Leadership Committee. Campus organizations may each designate an official liaison to the council who may take a seat at council meetings, participate in discussion, and recommend legislation to come before the council. Liaisons may not make motions or vote in council proceedings, however.

This is not a singular event, but an enduring organization that will foster its own substainable growth. With SOL Studio in existance, any Lawrence student will have the opportunity to record original material given that time is available. Equal distribution of time will be done limiting every artist to a maximum of 2 hours per week. Recording will be done in the WLFM recording studio, adjacent to the WLFM radio show studio. Mixing and mastering will be done in addition to the actual recording, also free of charge. The artist will receive a copy of their completed tracks on a CD upon completion. SOL Studio will retain the right to use any tracks recorded by its members on compilation CDs marketed to the Lawrence community (we are aware that the proper distribution of music requires attention to copyright laws and distribution rights). Any artist that wants to be recorded must read and sign an informational sheet explaining all the rules and stipulations (ie 2 hour/week limitation, etc.). This sheet will also note that the service was funded in part by a Class of 1965 Student Activity Grant.

More generally, we wish to promote the visual arts to the entire campus. Many of our activities, such as weekly figure drawing, are available to anyone who wishes to practice and improve their drawing and observational skills. We also participate in fund-raising activities that impact the community in Appleton as well as those around the globe. In order to further student's art education and appreciation, we plan trips to museums so they can observe art in person, rather than just on slides and online. We also try to work with the more medium specific art clubs on campus to create unique opportunities for students on campus.
