Tutors benefit in several ways from their work. They improve their own speaking, listening, organizational, and analytical abilities. What's more, they get paid!
If you're interested in being a tutor, you should be a student in good standing with no plans to go off campus for more than one term in the next year. We hire most of our tutors at the end of Spring Term for the upcoming academic year, but we occasionally hire tutors during the year. We welcome applications from all majors. Applicants should be rising sophomores or above.
NOTE: Faculty are given the opportunity to recommend potential oral communication tutors directly to the Center for Teaching and Learning. Any student recommended first by a faculty member will automatically receive an invitation to apply and an application via e-mail.
To apply to be a CTL oral communication tutor:
1. Open the file (2007-2008 Tutor Application) in Microsoft Word.
2. Print out the application.
3. Fill it out completely (including the essay and faculty recommendation signature).
4. Drop it off in the CTL (139 Briggs).
