Content Tutor Supervisor's Office Hours
Term II 2008
Wed/Th/Fri 1-5pm
"Content tutoring" refers to assistance with the specific subject matter in a course. Content tutors help students understand the course material by explaining and demonstrating concepts, reviewing topics, providing guidance through exercises, answering questions, clarifying, etc.
The Center for Teaching and Learning hires faculty-approved tutors to work with students in a variety of disciplines. Assistance is available with most 100-level courses and with many advanced-level courses. Each term, these courses are assigned designated tutors to whom students needing assistance are referred.
To request a content tutor, students may drop by the CTL, call x6767, fill out the online tutor request form, or e-mail the CTL. Please be prepared to provide the following information: your name, your phone number, the title of the course for which you are requesting a tutor, the course number (3-digit), and the instructor’s name.
Tutoring assistance can be a valuable tool, but it is only a supplement to classroom learning and to the existing relationship between students and faculty. Before seeking tutoring assistance, students should consult their instructors to discuss their difficulties in the course and their interest in content tutoring. Please review the rights and responsibilities page.
NOTE: It is the responsibility of the student to understand what type/degree of assistance with coursework and assignments (if any) is appropriate in relation to the Lawrence University Honor Code.
If you have questions about content tutoring, please contact the CTL Program Assistant, Josh Cline. His CTL office hours are listed above; you may also contact him via e-mail or call him at x 6536.
