Academic Counseling and Skill Development
Student Academic Services staff members are available to meet with any student (those in good standing as well as those on academic probation) to discuss a variety of issues related
to academic success at Lawrence. During academic counseling and skills development
sessions, the student and the SAS staff member can:
- talk about academic
stress and anxiety
- review and analyze the student’s past
performance
- identify and address obstacles impeding the
student’s academic success
- develop an action plan for improved
performance
- arrange for content tutoring in appropriate courses
- explore resources available in the Center for Teaching and Learning,
including writing, quantitative, content, or communications tutoring.
- discuss specific study skills and strategies (critical reading skills, note taking,
exam preparation, etc.)
- review personal organization methods and time management
- talk about avoiding distractions and procrastination
- talk about motivation, concentration, and focus
- discuss the basics of learning disabilities and review the academic accommodations
process (involves a referral to the deans of Student Academic Services)
