The Center for Teaching and Learning, located on the first floor of Briggs Hall, offers both students and faculty resources and opportunities for self-reflection and development. The CTL is a vital part of Lawrence's Student Academic Services Office and strives to assist all Lawrentians in reaching their academic goals.
Students may seek assistance with writing, oral communication, quantitative skills, academic skills, or subject-specific help (content tutoring) from the CTL. In addition, the CTL offers ESL tutoring for non-native speakers of English. We provide individual and small group tutoring, written resources, academic skills counseling, workshops, and advice on related questions--all designed to empower students to achieve academic excellence. In the 2006-07 academic year, 60% of Lawrence students worked with a CTL tutor at least once.
Faculty, as they reflect on and look for ways to improve their teaching, may choose to take advantage of numerous resources housed in the CTL. These include: print resources, information on the scholarship of teaching and learning, and online resources (including podcasts), as well as workshops and teaching circles. We are proud of our connections with the Committee on Teaching Development, the Mudd Library, the Freshman Studies Program, and other campus resources which support teaching.
