Gustavo Fares is a native of Argentina. He holds a Ph.D. in Latin American Literature from the University of Pittsburgh, a Master in Foreign Languages, a Master in Painting and Lithography from West Virginia University, and a J.D.Law Degree from the Universidad de Buenos Aires, Argentina.
As Professor of Spanish and Chairperson of the Spanish Department at Lawrence University his primary responsibilities include teaching all levels of the Spanish language and courses on Latin American literature and culture.
In addition, Dr. Fares advises students, participates in committees and task forces, and conducts scholarly research. Dr. Fares's research interests include the work of the Mexican writer Juan Rulfo, Mexican literature and culture, contemporary Argentinean women writers, Latin American culture, and cultural and border studies.

Jerzy (George) Jura
holds a Ph.D. in Spanish / Mass Communications
from the U. of Wisconsin-Madison, and Masters degrees in Spanish Philology (Jagiellonian U., in Kraków, Poland), and Journalism (UW - Madison). He is also an alumnus of the postgrad program at the Instituto
de Cooperación
Iberoamericana in Madrid.
In
addition to Spanish language and courses in Spanish literature his primary teaching interests
focus on film (SPAN 330: Intro. to
Film), and the role of the new media and journalism in present-day Spanish culture (SPAN 415: Current Events - Spain).
A geek at heart, he is active in promoting innovative uses of technology in his teaching, ranging from the use of interactive Adobe Flash presentations, to blogs, RSS feeds, and podcasts.

Esther
Palomino is a graduate of the Universidad de Castilla-La Mancha,
Spain with a Licenciatura en Filosofía y Letras. She is currently
a doctoral degree candidate in Comparative Literature at Purdue
University. The title of her dissertation is "The Influence
of William James's Philosophy in Miguel de Unamuno's Essays and
Fiction." She has published several articles on Peninsular
Spanish and Hispanic American literature, as well as on British
and US literatures. 
The topics of her research have ranged from the literature of exhaustion
in Borges and Barthes, semiotic theory applied to Chilean drama,
self-referentiality in Albee's plays, and Chicana lesbianism, to
the religious problem in Marlow and Calderón. She has also
presented papers at professional meetings on topics ranging from
Caribbean literature, Existentialisms, Kafka, Social Realism, and
Hardboiled fiction to Foreign Language pedagogy.

Rosa Tapia is a native of Úbeda (España). She holds a Ph.D. in Spanish Literature from the Pennsylvania State University, an M.A. in Spanish with a concentration in Foreign Language Pedagogy from the University of Delaware, and a Licenciatura in English Philology from the Universidad de Granada (Spain).
Her research interests include conflicts of national and cultural identity in the contemporary Spanish novel; ethical concerns and self-referentiality in Spanish and Latin American fiction; cultural and gender studies, and literary theory.
Tapia is currently Assistant Professor of Spanish at Lawrence University, where she teaches all levels of Spanish language, literature and culture, and Freshman Studies.

Patricia
Vilches is a native of Viña del Mar, Chile. She received
her M.A. and Ph.D. in Romance Languages and Literatures from the
University of Chicago, with a dissertation emphasis on Spanish Golden
Age and Italian Renaissance, and other work related to Latin American
literature. The current focus of her publications is Latin American
female authors, such as Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz and Violeta
Parra, "la Violeta."
Vilches
also concentrates on Italian Renaissance literature, especially
the works of Niccolò Machiavelli. She has produced a
volume of short stories about Chile, entitled Karma desde el Mar (
Ediciones Documentas, 1992). Vilches is currently Associate Professor
of Spanish and Italian at Lawrence University, where her main duties
are teaching all levels of Spanish language and Latin American literature
and culture, Italian language, and participating in the Freshman
Studies program.
During the 2007-8 academic year she will be the Visiting Faculty for the ACM Florence Program.
