This form of transportation, which is quite rare in the U.S., is common in Russian cities. As with buses, people board trolleybuses at the middle or at the rear -- normally not at the front. Rather than paying when they enter, riders of the trolleybus need to have tickets that they punch on the trolleybus. Sometimes people will ride trolleybuses without a ticket, but when they do so they risk being fined.
