Moscow has an extensive metro system which is especially known
for its stations, each of which is decorated in a unique fashion. The
metro system in Moscow first opened in the 1930s and has expanded widely.
Until a few years ago tokens were used in the metro system, but now a
system of cards with electronic strips is in place. At the present time
any trip on the metro costs the same amount, no matter the distance travelled,
but that situation may change soon. St. Petersburg and Kiev also have
metro systems.
