Russian Words and Images

The image shown here is of the main building of Moscow State University, the most famous and prestigious Russian university. Russian universities offer courses of study that are somewhat longer than those in the U.S., from 5-6 years. Students are considered for a specific department when they apply to a university, and are required to take and pass entry exams. Changing one's major is virtually unheard of. The notion of a liberal arts college is a foreign one in Russia, and it is only in the past few years that a very few such institutions have opened in Russia.
