The vast majority of churches in Russia are Orthodox churches, which are considerably more ornate -- both inside and outside -- than typical churches in the U.S. Russian churches often include considerable gilding on the outside, and extensive icons on the inside. Head coverings must be worn within Russian churches. Services take place with people standing continuously, rather than sitting down during part of the service.
