dirty waterThis is Kono Bay Community, one of the poorest areas of Freetown. Children are constantly in contact with this dirty water; washing with it, drinking it, and even peeing in it. The canal provides a fertile breeding ground for malaria-carrying mosquitoes. Most of the children and adults living around this canal have malaria and other diseases.

The boy closest to the camera is waiting to fill his bucket with water. He says that he is helping his parents, and his mom needs water to wash the dishes. Water is the main element of hygiene but does this kind of water count?  Currently, they have no alternative to using this contaminated water
