It was thrilling to see kids being kids, especially after witnessing so many street children all over Freetown, who do not have the time and energy to be children.
In rural areas, the kids may have better chances to play. However, the number of students is quite low in Sierra Leone and even lower in rural areas. Although previous and current governments have been constructing many schools in towns and villages, fewer and fewer teachers are willing to work in them. Teachers graduated from training schools are leaving the classrooms due to unattractive conditions of service. In an attempt to solve this problem, the government has been hiring unqualified and untrained teachers. Far from being a solution, this approach exacerbated the situation.
