Publications Planning

To take full advantage of the services offered by Communications, it is suggested that clients meet with publications staff to discuss projects early in the planning process. Planning sessions may occur prior to or as a job is formally submitted for production.

Design and editorial staff can help conceptualize the type of publication that will be most effective in getting the message across to the targeted audience(s) you have in mind. Throughout the production process, publications staff are available to discuss publications strategy, creative concepts, layout, and tailoring copy to best accomplish the goals laid out for the project.

The first step is to determine whether a printed publication is really needed to accomplish the purposes or objectives laid out for the communication. Publications staff may suggest that other mediums--a personal letter, telephone call, paid advertisement, e-mail correspondence, or Web site announcement--may, in fact, serve your purposes better, and at a lower cost. In some cases, a new publication may not be necessary where current publications or material on the Lawrence website already address the need.
