Wayfinding and Exterior Signage

In February, 2000, the university commissioned Sasaki Associates of Watertown, Massachusetts, to conduct a comprehensive study of wayfinding and exterior signage at Lawrence University and to develop recommendations for the establishment of a new signage system and standards for its implementation. After soliciting wide input from a variety of campus offices, Sasaki Associates prepared a preliminary plan that was approved by the university project team, consisting of the president, vice president for business affairs and administration, vice president for development and external affairs, director of public affairs, and director of physical plant.

The project team authorized Sasaki Associate to proceed with the development of a final master plan for wayfinding and exterior signage that would guide the university in the development of any new signage system. The Sasaki sign master plan, presented in December, 2001, represents the official planning document for the university when it comes to exterior signage. Implementation of the Sasaki plan is pending, subject to the identification and authorization of appropriate funding for completion of the project.
