MADISON, Wis. -- Emma Kent placed second at No. 6 singles and teamed with Emily Dalton to take second at No. 3 doubles to pace the Lawrence University women's tennis team at the Midwest Conference Championships.
Lawrence finished with 38 points to take sixth in the team standings.
Kent beat Martha Kwiecinski of Illinois College 6-0, 6-0 in the quarterfinals and then beat St. Norbert's Jill Warner 6-1, 6-3 in the semifinals at No. 6 singles. Grinnell's Jill Akiyama downed Kent 6-4, 6-1 in the title match.
Kent and Dalton routed Beloit's Lily Rubenstein and Julia Win 6-1, 6-1 in the quarterfinals at No. 3 doubles. Kent and Dalton then defeated St. Norbert's Erin Riutta and Allyson Yanke 3-6, 6-0, 6-3 in the semifinals. Grinnell's Camila Alarcon and Margaret Block beat Kent and Dalton 6-1, 6-2 in the title match.
At No. 1 singles, Hanah McCarthy took the consolation title. After dropping a three-set match to Alarcon in the quarterfinals, McCarthy beat Ripon's Brittany Sullivan 10-0 in the consolation semifinals and downed Illinois College's Candice Norville 10-8 for the consolation championship.
Grinnell won the team championship for the fourth consecutive season.
