Lawrence's Szkodzinski named to AHCA Board of Governors

APPLETON, Wis. -- Lawrence University head coach Mike Szkodzinski has been appointed to the American Hockey Coaches Association Board of Governors.

Szkodzinski, who is set to begin his second season on the bench for Lawrence, was recently approved by the organization's officers and the Board of Directors to serve a one-year term.

"It is a real privilege to be asked to work with the AHCA," said Szkodzinski, whose Vikings set a school records for victories in a season in 2006-07. "The current staff and those who have worked closely with the organization are some of the most respected coaches and people in all of college hockey. I am very appreciative of the opportunity to be associated with this group."

Szkodzinski, who was nominated for the Board of Governors by AHCA president and University of Denver coach George Gwozdecky, is the lone NCAA Division III West Region representative on the board. Szkodzinski was on the national stage last spring at the AHCA convention, as he presented a drill to the entire membership.

The AHCA was formed in 1947 and promotes the game at all levels. The organization helps shape the on-ice playing rules used by the NCAA, hands out awards to both individuals and teams, and provides a forum for the exchange of ideas on the game.

Szkodzinski begins his second season with the Vikings when Lawrence hosts the Soo Thunderbirds in an exhibition game on Oct. 17. The Vikings open the regular season on Oct. 30 when they travel to St. Norbert College.
