Lawrence's Butitta earns MWC Player of the Week honors

APPLETON, Wis. -- Lawrence University men's soccer standout Vince Butitta was named the Midwest Conference Offensive Player of the Week.

The native of Delavan, Wis., scored his first two career goals to help the Vikings to a 1-0-1 record this past week.

A former star at Delavan-Darien High School, Butitta broke a 1-1 tie with his goal in the 82nd minute of what would end as a 2-2 tie with Ripon College on Sept. 18. Butitta beat the Ripon goalkeeper to a pass from Colin Vize, headed the ball out in front of him and then found the empty net for his first career goal.

In a 2-1 win over MSOE on Sept. 22, Butitta broke a scoreless tie when he scored in the 52nd minute off a pass from Joe Sluhoski.

Lawrence is 3-4-1 on the season, and the Vikings return to action on Wednesday when they travel to UW-Oshkosh for a nonconference game.
