Lawrence's Marinac named to Academic All-District Team

APPLETON, Wis. -- Lawrence University softball standout Catherine Marinac has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 5 Team in a vote by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Marinac, a senior from St. Paul, Minn., was a third-team selection. A biology and chemistry major, Marinac has an impressive 3.87 grade point average.

A three-time National Fastpitch Coaches Association Scholar All-American, Marinac is a two-time All-Midwest Conference selection and is a six-time academic all-conference choice (three in softball, two in soccer, one in cross country).

The 2006 MWC North Division Pitcher of the Year, Marinac has earned numerous academic honors during her time at Lawrence. A Rhodes Scholar candidate, Marinac was named Phi Beta Kappa. She also was elected to Lawrence's two honor societies, Lamba Sigma and Mortar Board.

Named the school's Freshman Chemistry Student of the Year, Marinac did a summer undergraduate research fellowship at the Mayo Clinic in 2006. She was awarded a National Institute of Health summer undergraduate research fellowship at the Mayo Clinic in 2007.

Marinac finished with a 4-9 record and 4.94 earned run average this season. Lawrence completed the campaign with a 9-16 record.
