Frelich, Rashid win MWC baseball honors

APPLETON, Wis. -- Lawrence University baseball players Andy Frelich and Robert Rashid have earned weekly honors from the Midwest Conference.

Frelich was named Pitcher of the Week, and Rashid earned Player of the Week honors.

Frelich, a sophomore right-hander from Maribel, Wis., picked up his first collegiate victory in Lawrence's 7-3 victory over Lakeland College on April 8. The former Denmark High School standout went the distance, allowing seven hits while striking out five and walking four.

Frelich has a 1-2 record this season with a 4.76 earned run average.

Rashid, a freshman from Evanston, Ill., provided the key hit in the Vikings' win over Lakeland, which was Lawrence's only action of the week. A former standout at Evanston Township High School, Rashid belted a three-run triple in the fourth inning that broke the game open. Rashid finished the game 1-for-3 with three runs batted in and a run scored.

Rashid is batting .294 on the season with two doubles, a triple, and six RBIs.

Lawrence returns to action Saturday when it travels to Beloit College for a Midwest Conference doubleheader. The Vikings host Beloit Sunday in another league twinbill.
