Lawrence soccer teams again honored for academic excellence

APPLETON, Wis. -- The Lawrence University soccer teams have again been honored for their work in the classroom.

Both teams won the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Team Academic Award, which goes to teams that earned a grade point average of 3.0 or higher during the 2006-07 academic year. Lawrence was one of 71 schools in the nation to have both of its programs honored. This marks the third consecutive year Lawrence has had both teams win this award.

This is the fifth consecutive sesaon the Lawrence women have been honored and the fifth time the men have earned the honor since 2001.

Lawrence had eight women's soccer players named to the Academic All-Midwest Conference Team, and the Lawrence men had seven players honored on that squad.

Seniors Laurel Benson and Gretchen Shaffer, juniors Alison Blegen, Jackie Bean, Amanda Follett, and Beth Melzer, and sophomore Rachel Stein were academic all-conference selections. On the men's side, seniors Ben Glover and Joe Sluhoski, juniors Nick Carlson and Nick Dufficy, and sophomores Brad Camp, T.J. Frett, and Steve Schnorr were selected.
