Kroeger earns first-team all-region honors

APPLETON, Wis. -- Lawrence University men's basketball star Ryan Kroeger has been named to the All-Midwest Region first team by D3hoops.com and the National Association of Basketball Coaches.

Kroeger, a junior guard from Glendale, Wis., earned all-region honors for the first time in his career. He is Lawrence's fourth all-region selection in the past five seasons. Chris Braier was named to the team in 2004, 2005, and 2006.

A former standout at Nicolet High School, Kroeger led Lawrence to the Midwest Conference championship, the MWC Tournament title, and a berth in the NCAA Division III Tournament. Lawrence finished with a 22-3 record.

Kroeger averaged 17.5 points and was named the MWC Player of the Year. Kroeger, who averaged 2.5 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game, shot a stellar 55.3 percent from the floor, including 47.7 percent on 3-pointers. He also hit 84.8 percent of his free throws.

Kroeger now ranks 13th in career scoring with 1,082 points.

Kroeger was the lone player from the MWC to make the first team and one of five players selected from the league. Grinnell College's John Grotberg and Beloit College's Andy Horton made the D3hooops.com second team, and Carroll College's Wes Ladwig and Ripon College's Scott Gillespie made the third team.
