APPLETON, Wis. -- Lawrence University standout Madeline Steininger will compete at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships on Friday.
Steininger, a sophomore from New Berlin, Wis., will compete in the high jump Friday at 5:30 p.m. at Ohio Northern University in Ada, Ohio.
Steininger is one of 17 competitors in the high jump. The top eight finisher earn All-America status.
A former standout at Milwaukee Pius XI High School, Steininger earned her place in the NCAA Championships with a record-breaking jump at the UW-Stevens Point Invitational on Feb. 23. Her jump of 5 feet, 5 inches, broke her own school record of 5-3 she had set earlier this season.
After her performance at Stevens Point, Steininger went on to win the high jump and place in two other events at the Midwest Conference Championships. She was named one of the Outstanding Field Performers at the meet.
Steininger is the first Lawrence athlete to qualify for the NCAA indoor championships since Kolade Agbaje-Williams took sixth in the long jump in 2003. She is the first female to make the indoor meet since Shelley Ebert placed ninth in the 800 meters in 2002.
