APPLETON, Wis. -- Lawrence University's Marc Howe has been named the Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association Player of the Week.
Howe, a sophomore forward from Cedarburg, Wis., scored four goals, handed out a pair of assists, and set a school record as Lawrence swept a road series at Northland College this past weekend.
Howe, who played for the Bozeman Icedogs before attending Lawrence, scored twice and handed out two assists in the Vikings' 6-3 victory last Friday. Howe, who assisted on Lawrence's third goal of the evening, scored what proved to be the game-winning goal midway through the second period. With the Vikings holding a one-goal lead late in the game, he assisted on Nick Jennette's goal and then added the final tally himself with 1:25 left in the contest.
Howe got the scoring started in Lawrence's 5-0 victory on Saturday. His short-handed goal late in the first period put the Vikings up 1-0. With Lawrence leading 3-0 midway through the second period, Howe scored an unassisted short-handed goal.
The two short-handed goals set a school record for the most short-handed goals in a game. No Lawrence player had ever scored more than one short-hander in a game prior to Saturday.
Howe, who has been named MCHA Player of the Week twice this season, is tied for the team lead with 30 points this season. Howe is second on the team with 15 goals and third with 15 assists.
Lawrence wraps up the regular season when it travels to Finlandia University for games Friday and Saturday.
