APPLETON, Wis. -- Lawrence University women's basketball standout Kelly Mulcahy has been lost for the rest of the season.
Mulcahy, a senior forward from Glendale, Wis., suffered a concussion in Lawrence's game at Grinnell College on Jan. 26 and has not played since.
"We are very disappointed to lose Kelly for the remainder of the season," Lawrence head coach Michelle Walsh said. "Her on-the-floor leadership and tenacity will be sorely missed down the stretch."
Mulcahy, who averaged 12.8 points and 6.0 rebounds per game while shooting 53.8 percent from the floor this season, finishes her career as one of the top players in Lawrence history. A two-time first-team All-Midwest Conference selection, Mulcahy finishes seventh on the career scoring list with 956 points.
The former Nicolet High School standout shot 55.2 percent from the floor during her career. That trails only career leader Alisa Haase, who shot 56.2 percent during her career from 1992-96. Mulcahy set Lawrence's season field goal percentage record when she shot 60.4 percent during the 2004-05 campaign.
Mulcahy's 11.8 point-per-game average ties her for ninth on the career list with Lawrence Hall of Famer Tracie Spangenberg, who played from 1986-90. Mulcahy also ranks 11th with 435 career rebounds.
"Aside from our obvious disappointment from a competitive standpoint, this is sad from a personal standpoint," Lawrence Director of Athletics Robert Beeman said. "Kelly has meant so much to our program. You never want to see a fierce competitor like her end her career as the result of circumstances beyond her control."
The Vikings also will be without junior guard/forward Erin Henzi for the rest of the season. Henzi, a Brillion, Wis., native who starred at Fox Valley Lutheran High School, reinjured her ankle and will not be able to continue. She originally suffered the injury in the Jan. 26 game at Grinnell.
The Vikings return to action Friday when they face visiting Monmouth College, and Lawrence then takes on Lake Forest College on Saturday.
