Steininger's record-setting performance nets award

APPLETON, Wis. -- Lawrence University track standout Madeline Steininger was named the Midwest Conference Field Performer of the Week after a record-setting performance on Feb. 2.

Steininger, a sophomore from New Berlin, Wis., broke Lawrence's record in the high jump at the University of Chicago Duals. The former standout at Milwaukee Pius XI High School won the high jump with a leap of 5 feet, 3 inches. Steininger broke the record of 5-2 set by Vickie Leathers in 1993.

Steininger also ran a personal best on her way to finishing third in the 55-meter hurdles in 9.22 seconds. She also placed seventh in the long jump, tying her personal best with a leap of 15-9.75. Steininger also took 16th in the 200 meters by running a season-best time of 28.80 seconds.

The Vikings return to action on Saturday at the UW-Stevens Point Invitational.
