APPLETON, Wis. -- Lawrence University men's basketball standout Ryan Kroeger has been named the Midwest Conference Player of the Week.
Kroeger, a junior guard from Glendale, Wis., keyed both of Lawrence's victories on a 2-0 road trip to Florida to face a pair of scholarship schools. The former star at Nicolet High School averaged 24.5 points and 4.5 rebounds while shooting 77.8 percent (14-18) from the floor, including 66.7 percent (8-12) from 3-point range.
Kroeger scored a game-high 31 points in Lawrence's 73-60 victory at NCAA Division II Nova Southeastern University on Dec. 17. The 31 points tied his career high, set against Grinnell College on Jan. 28, 2006. In Lawrence's first-ever victory over a Division II school, Kroeger hit 8 of 9 shots from the field, including 6 of 7 from beyond the arc. He also added a pair of rebounds and a pair of assists.
On Dec. 18, Kroeger scored a game-high 18 points in Lawrence's 69-57 win at NAIA school Johnson and Wales. Kroeger hit 6 of 9 shots from the field, including 2 of 5 from 3-point range. He pulled down a career-high seven rebounds and handed out an assist.
On the season, Kroeger is averaging a team-high 16.4 points per game and is shooting 55.4 percent from the floor, including 50 percent on 3-pointers.
The Vikings return to action on Jan. 12 when they host Ripon College in a Midwest Conference game at Alexander Gymnasium.
