Special Post-Performance Panel Discussion Planned for Lawrence Theatre
Production

APPLETON, WIS. -- Theatre-goers to the first two of four Lawrence
University performances of Lillian Hellman's "The Little Foxes" will be
treated to a special post-show panel discussion of the American classic.
Faculty members from Lawrence's history and gender studies
departments, a representative from the Multicultural Affairs office, the
play's director, Kathy Dudley, and several student cast members will
participate in a forum entitled "Power-Brokering Through Race and
Gender."
The discussion will be held in Stansbury Theatre immediately
following the Thursday, May 11 and Friday, May 12 performances, which
begin at 8 p.m.
Examining the concept of power -- how one gets it, keeps it and how
power relates to both gender and race -- each panelist will briefly
share their perspective on the play and then solicit audience comment
and questions.
"The Little Foxes," named one of the 25 significant American plays
of the century by the American Theatre Critics Association, was written by
Hellman in 1939. Set in 1900, it is an emotionally charged tale of
greed and evil in a ruthless Southern family that rises from poverty to
dominate the vanishing plantation aristocracy.
The play also will be performed Saturday, May 13 at 8 p.m. and
Sunday, May 14 at 3 p.m.
