Lawrence University International Cabaret Features Food, Entertainment
from Around the World
APPLETON, WIS. -- Generous servings of food, fun and entertainment
from around the world will be on the menu Sunday, April 9 when Lawrence
University hosts its 24th annual International Cabaret. The event
begins at 6 p.m. in the Buchanan Kiewit Recreation Center on the
Lawrence campus.
The event features a buffet style dinner with a delectable
international cuisine. The menu includes egg/lemon soup (Greece),
Russian and Asian radish salads, side dishes of fried plantains
(Jamaica), jollof rice (Ghana) and burakcin beans (Turkey), with German
cake and Polish dumplings for dessert. Dinner entrees feature murgh
makhani chicken (India), curried mutton (Jamaica) and a Latin American
vegetarian rice dish.
Music will be provided by the Sambistas, Lawrence's popular
Brazilian percussion ensemble, with Indian, Latin American, Caribbean
and African dancers performing throughout the evening. An international
fashion show of traditional native garb modeled by Lawrence students
from their home countries concludes the evening's program.
Tickets, at $10 for adults, $8 for students, $5 for children under
12, can be purchased in advance at the Lawrence box office, 115 S. Drew
Street, Appleton, 12:30-5:30 p.m. Monday-Saturday. A limited number of
tickets also will be available at the door the evening of the event.
