Russia in Transition: Future of Former Soviet Union Focus of LU Main Hall
Forum

APPLETON, WIS. -- With an ailing President Boris Yeltzin back in the
hospital, the future of Russia has once again become the topic of open
speculation.
Jeffrey Roberg, assistant professor of political science at Carthage
College, shares his views on what challenges lie ahead for Russia in a
Lawrence University Main Hall Forum. Roberg's address, Monday, March 8 at
4:15 p.m. in Main Hall, Room 109, is free and open to the public.
A specialist on the political leadership of the former Soviet Union and
the role of Soviet scientists in the struggle for human rights, Roberg will
focus on the political, economic and social upheavals Russia has endured
since the breakup of the former Soviet Union in 1991 and explore the present
and future impact of those transitions in light of current situations in
Russia.
Roberg is the author of the book, "Soviet Science Under Control: The
Struggle for Influence," and has written widely on the role of Soviet
technology and its impact on the Soviet people and the rest of the world.
A member of the Carthage faculty since 1997, he earned his bachelor's
degree in political science from UCLA and both his master's degree and Ph.D.
in political science from the University of Illinois.
