Contact: Rick Peterson, Manager of News Services, 414/832-6590 For Immediate Release November 11, 1996 Lawrence University Students Claim Two Firsts at State Music Competition APPLETON, WIS. -- Lawrence University students Keith Harris and KrisAnne Weiss were first-place winners in the senior men and continuing senior women divisions at the annual Wisconsin chapter of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) audition competition held Nov. 8-9 at Lawrence. Harris is a voice student of Lawrence professor Ken Bozeman. Weiss is a student of professor Patrice Michaels Bedi. Senior Cathy Statz, junior Stephen Rodriques-Pavao and sophomore Ingrid Haugen were second-place winners in the competition. Senior Paul Speiser and sophomores Chad Freeburg, Rachel Edie, Carrie Henneman and Shayleen Thompson were all finalists in their respective divisions. The NATS competition featured more than 300 singers from public and private colleges in Wisconsin. Competitors are required to sing several arias in different languages and time periods in the preliminary round as well as in the finals.
