Contact: Rick Peterson, Manager of News Services, 414/832-6590 For Immediate Release February 12,1997 Lawrence University Musicians Win Regional Music Competitions APPLETON, WIS.-- A Lawrence University saxophone quartet placed first in the East Central Division of the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) collegiate chamber music competition held Feb. 8-9 at the University of Michigan. Members of the winning quartet were seniors Javier Arau, tenor sax, Paul Gronert, baritone sax, and Matthew Livingston, soprano sax and junior Lisa Rhoades, alto sax. In addition, Rhoades placed first in the MTNA collegiate artist (woodwinds) performance competition. She was accompanied by pianist Doug Schneider, 1995 Lawrence graduate. The competitions featured group and individual winners of previously held state competitions in Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Ohio. The Lawrence musicians advance to the national competition in Dallas, Texas in April.
