In celebration of Asian Heritage Month, writer-composer-actress Nobuko Miyamota brings her one-woman, multi-media show, "A Grain of Sand," to Lawrence University's Cloak Theatre Saturday, April 19 at 8 p.m. Admission is $2 at the door. Through poetic fusion of song, story, dance and video imagery, Miyamoto balances a detailed personal history of her life as an artist and political activist with a broader social context, including the World War II Japanese internment camps and the more recent Los Angeles riots. She calls her performance "one grain in the sandbox of stories that are part of Asian- Americana." A veteran of Broadway theatre, Miyamota has danced and sung in productions of "West Side Story," "The King and I" and "Flower Drum Song." Miyamota's appearance is sponsored by ASIA-A, the Lawrence Asian-American student organization.
