Contact: Rick Peterson, Manager of News Services, 414/832-6590 For Immediate Release January 20, 1997 Legal, Economic Reforms in Russia Focus of Lawrence University Lecture APPLETON, WIS. -- Kathryn Hendley, professor of law and political science at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, will discuss the relationship between and legal and economic reforms in Russia Monday, Jan. 27 in Lawrence University's continuing lecture series, "Russia and Europe in Transition." Hendley's address, "Rewriting the Rules of the Game: The Struggle to Build a Market Economy in Russia," at 7 p.m. in Lawrence's Main Hall, Room 109 is free and open to the public. A specialist on the process of privatization in Russia and the role of law in business relations, Hendley has conducted extensive research on contractual relations between Russian enterprises during the current economic transition. She recently completed a six-month appointment as a research associate at the Kennan Institute for Advance Russian Studies and led a presentation on privatized enterprise in post-Soviet Russia at a conference in Washington, D.C. Hendley holds a master's degree in Russian Area Studies from Georgetown University, a law degree from UCLA and a Ph.D. in political science from the University of California, Berkeley.
