Peter DeVries, a 1984 Lawrence University graduate, returns to his alma mater Friday, May 2 to discuss cutting-edge applications of computers in biological processes and research collaborations as part of Lwarence's on-going "Recent Advances in Biology" lecture series. DeVries' address, at 3 p.m. in 201 Stephenson Hall, is free and open to the public. An independent biocomputing specialist who has done extensive work at the University of Wisconsin, DeVries will discuss the latest computer application developments, ranging from the use of image morphing to illustrate developmental processes, collecting and viewing 4-dimensional data sets of embryo development and using desktop videoconferencing to facilitate remote collaborations between researchers. DeVries tests emerging internet technologies and writes articles about their application for a variety of academic institutions and researchers.
