Contact: Rick Peterson, Manager of News Services, 414/832-6590 For Immediate Release October 29, 1996 Lawrence University Students Claim Three Firsts at State Music Competition APPLETON, WIS.-- Clint Fox, Lisa Rhoades and the Lawrence University Saxophone Quartet earned first-place honors at the state Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) collegiate competition held Oct. 25 in Eau Claire and will advance to the regional competition in February in Ann Arbor, Mich. Fox, a senior piano major, won the Young Chang piano competition, performing a concerto by Liszt as well as works by Hadyn, Schubert and Bach. He is a student of Kathleen Murray. Rhoades, a junior majoring in saxophone performance, won the solo competition, performing works of Bach, Brahms, Larssen, Ibert and Kelterborn. She is a student of Steven Jordheim. The saxophone quartet of Rhoades and seniors Matthew Livingston, Javier Arau and Paul Gronert placed first in the chamber music category. They performed works by Bach, Stock, Singelee and Jelly Roll Morton. The state MTNA competition is open to all collegiate music students in Wisconsin.
