Neenah native and well-known art critic James Auer will discuss the current exhibition at Lawrence University's Wriston Art Center Galleries Monday, May 12 in a Lawrence fine arts colloquium. Auer's address, "Eye Strain and 'I' Strain: Reflections of a Lawrence Alumnus," will be held at 6:30 p.m. in the Wriston Art Center auditorium. The event is free and open to the public. In his slide-illustrated talk, Auer will comment on "Alumni Collect," the current gallery exhibition featuring selections from Lawrence alumni collections ranging from classical to contemporary. He also will discuss his duties as an art critic and feature writer for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. Auer, a 1950 Lawrence graduate and former Sunday editor of The Post-Crescent, has been a staff member of the Journal Sentinel for 24 years. In addition to covering the visual arts, Auer has written and narrated documentary films on numerous artists, including Aaron Bohrod and Patrick Farrell. He recently wrote, narrated and co-produced an hour-long documentary biography on Olgivanna Lloyd Wright, the third wife of noted Wisconsin-born architect Frank Lloyd Wright, which aired on public television.
