For Immediate Release April 30, 1996 Ancient Olympic Games Revisited in Lawrence University Archaeology Lecture APPLETON, WIS. - The sites and spirit of the original Olympic games will be revisited in Professor Daniel J. Taylor's entertaining and lavishly illustrated lecture/slide presentation, "Olympia and the Olympic Games: 776 B.C.-1996 A.D." Tuesday, May 7 at Lawrence University. The presentation, at 7:30 p.m. in the Wriston Art Center Auditorium, is free and open to the public. Through slides and expert commentary, Taylor's program tours the site of the ancient Olympic games, examines some of the visual evidence of the original contests themselves and explains why the Olympic games weren't then, and are not today, just another sporting event. One of the world's foremost authorities on Roman scholar Marcus Varro, Taylor has been a member of the Lawrence University classics department since 1974. He earned his bachelor's degree in classics at Lawrence in 1963 and his Ph.D. in classics at the University of Washington. Contact: Rick Peterson, Manager of News Services, 414/832-6590
