Contact: Rick Peterson, Manager of News Services, 414/832-6590 For Immediate Release June 12, 1996 Lawrence University's Timm-Ballard Cited in National Art Competition APPLETON, WIS. - Lawrence University artist Charles Timm-Ballard was named the third-place winner from among more than 1,500 entries in the recent Lincoln (Calif.) Arts Alliance "Feats of Clay" national ceramics competition. He was cited for his 1995 work, "Emanations in the Spring Orchard," a landscape tile piece. Timm-Ballard, the Frederick Layton distinguished visiting professor of studio art at Lawrence, has had his work featured in exhibitions at the Jane Hartsook Gallery in New York City, the Art Museum of the University of Memphis, the Thomas Berry Fine Arts in Minneapolis and the Lincoln (Calif.) Arts Center and LawrenceUs own Wriston Art Center. The Wisconsin Academy of Sciences, Arts and Letters Gallery in Madison will feature a solo exhibition of his work in February, 1997. Named to Lawrence's Layton professorship in 1994, Timm-Ballard earlier this year was one of 30 recipients of an Arts Midwest/National Endowment for the Arts Regional Visual Artist Fellowship. He earned his bachelor of fine arts degree from UW-Milwaukee and his master of fine arts degree from the University of Nebraska. -30-
