For Immediate Release January 29, 1996 Lawrence University Artist Selected for Connecticut Exhibition APPLETON, WIS.- Alice King Case, lecturer in the Lawrence University art department, has been selected to exhibit in the prestigious 10th annual "Women in the Visual Arts 1996 Show" at the Erector Square Gallery in New Haven, Conn. Her work, "Tommy's Plane to Mexico," will be included in the exhibit, which opens March 8 and continues through March 29. An artist specializing in drawings and collge, Case was one of only 82 artists from more than 2,500 entries across the United States and abroad selected for the Erector Square Gallery exhibition. The show, which will feature a wide variety of mediums from contemporary women artists, was selected by Ann Langdon, artist/writer and gallery manager at The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Landgon is the founder of Women in the Arts exhibition. "Given the competitiveness and the sheer number of artists involved, and the fact the pieces were selected by Ann Langdon, it's certainly a thrill and an honor to have a piece of my work included in this show," said Case. "I create art for the sheer joy of it and no longer get bothered one way or the other if my work is or isn't selected for an exhibition, but of course it's always gratifying and reaffirming when someone of Ms. Langdon's stature singles you out for recognition." Last October, Case won the Jurors' Award of Merit in the annual "Wisconsin Art Educators Exhibition" at the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design for the second consecutive year. In the last 10 years, Case has exhibited her work in nearly 50 shows around the country. She joined the Lawrence faculty in 1980 after spending more than 20 years as an art instructor in suburban Chicago school systems. Contact: Rick Peterson, Manager of News Services, 414/832-6590
