For Immediate Release February 20, 1996 Brazilian Play "Bride's Dress" Comes to Lawrence University Stage APPLETON, WIS. - Lawrence University senior Christina Streva will direct four performances of the three-act Brazilian play, "Bride's Dress," Feb. 29-March 3 in the Cloak Theatre of the Lawrence Music-Drama Center. The first three performances each begin at 8 p.m., while Sunday, March 3 will be a matinee performance at 3 p.m. All are free and open to the public. A contemporary expressionistic play, "Bride's Dress" examines life in a strict Catholic upbringing and the repressed sexuality that goes with it through the memories of a young woman in Rio de Janeiro who has been hit by a car and is dying but doesnUt realize it. Translated from Portuguese into English, "Bride's Dress" was written in the early 1970s by Nilson Rogrigues, Brazil's best-known modern playwright. Streva, a native of Rio de Janeiro herself, is directing the production as her senior theatre project. She has previously directed Lawrence productions of "Top Girls" and "No Exit."
