For Immediate Release January 17, 1996 Wisconsin Judge Discusses Domestic Abuse In Lawrence University Address APPLETON, WIS. - Wisconsin Court of Appeals Judge Charles Schudson, who as a prosecutor in the Milwaukee District Attorney's office helped develop the nation' domestic abuse in a Downer Feminist Council Forum Tuesday, Jan. 23 at Lawrence University. Schudson will deliver the address, "Battered Women and Abused Children: A Feminist Male in the Judicial System," at 4:15 p.m. in Riverview Lounge of the Lawrence Memorial Union. The event is free and open to the public. Schudson has testified on battered women before numerous congressional committees and was the lead witness on child sexual abuse hearings in 1990 before the United States Senate Judiciary Committee. In 1989, Schudson co- authored the book, "On Trial: America's Courts and Their Treatment of Sexually Abused Children." The book, now in its fifth printing, received critical acclaim and has been used for training judges in the justice system. Schudson served as a Circuit Court judge in the juvenile and criminal courts of Milwaukee County from 1982-92 before being elected to the Wisconsin Court of Appeals in 1992. He is currently a candidate for the Wisconsin Supreme Court. A native of Milwaukee, Schudson serves on the board of directors of the National Committee to Prevent Child Abuse and the National Resource Center on Child Sexual Abuse.
