FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE April 14, 1995 Lawrence University Wind Ensemble Featured in Concert The Lawrence University Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Robert Levy, will present a concert Sunday, April 23 at 8 p.m. in the Lawrence Memorial Chapel. Cellist Janet Anthony will assist. The event is free and open to the public. Included on the program are works by Benjamin Britten, Carl Maria von Weber, Ludwig van Beethoven, Sergei Prokofiev, Allan Blank, John Huggler, and Alec Wilder. Janet Anthony, associate professor of music at Lawrence, has concertized throughout the United States and Europe as a soloist, recitalist, chamber musician, and orchestral player. Last year, she was Visiting Professor of Cello at the University of Arizona in Tucson. During three years spent in Vienna, Austria, Ms. Anthony toured with the Vienna Chamber Orchestra and the Chamber Orchestra of the Vienna Symphony, recorded with the Vienna Volksopern Orchestra, and was the solo cellist for the Bach Society Orchestra. Recently in Spain, she was featured as a soloist on Spanish National Television and National Radio broadcasts as well as the Festival Internacional de Music: XIV Semana del Romanico Palencia, the Festivales de Aragon, and in Madrid, the Veranos de la Villa. Professor Anthony is a frequent performer on Wisconsin Public Radio and has been heard across the country on National Public Radio broadcasts. The Lawrence University Wind Ensemble has performed with many internationally known guest artists including Brian Bowman, euphonium; Jeffrey Bradetich, string bass; Armando Ghitalla, trumpet; Sam Pilafian, tuba; Donald Sinta, saxophone; Gordon Stout, marimba; Charles Vernon, bass trombone; and conductors Karel Husa and John Paynter. The Wind Ensemble has performed for the College Band Directors National Association, American Bandmasters Association, and Wisconsin State Music Educators Association conventions. The ensembleUs compact disc recording of RAmerican Music for Winds,S featuring the music of Gunther Schuller, Leslie Bassett, John Harbison, Donald Erb, and Sydney Hodkinson, was released on the Mark Recordings label in 1994.
