FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE May 16, 1995 Lawrence University Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band Featured in Concert The Lawrence University Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band, under the direction of Robert Levy, will present a concert Sunday, May 21 at 8 p.m. in the Lawrence Memorial Chapel. The event is free and open to the public. Included on the program are works by Vincent Persichetti, Richard Strauss, and Frank Martin. The Lawrence University Wind Ensemble has performed with many internationally known guest artists including Brian Bowman, euphonium; Jeffrey Bradetich, string bass; Armando Ghitalla, trumpet; Sam Pilafian, tuba; Donald Sinta, saxophone; Gordon Stout, marimba; Charles Vernon, bass trombone; and conductors Karel Husa and John Paynter. The Wind Ensemble has performed for the College Band Directors National Association, American Bandmasters Association, and Wisconsin State Music Educators Association conventions. The ensemble's compact disc recording of American Music for Winds, featuring the music of Gunther Schuller, Leslie Bassett, John Harbison, Donald Erb, and Sydney Hodkinson, was released on the Mark Recordings label in 1994.
