FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE May 16, 1995 Lawrence Chamber Recital Features Composition Contest Winner APPLETON, WIS. - The winning work in Lawrence University Conservatory of Music's first annual composition competition will highlight a recital of chamber music Tuesday, May 23 at 8 p.m. in Harper Hall of the Music-Drama Center. The event is free and open to the public. The featured work on the program was written by Lawrence senior Brooke Joyce, a theory/composition major from the studio of Allen Gimbel. Joyce's composition Come up from the fields father, for soprano, flute, clarinet, cello, and piano, was selected by a panel of judges as the winner of the first annual Lawrence Contemporary Chamber Music Ensemble (LCCME) Composition Competition. Sponsored by the LCCME and its artistic director, assistant professor of music Bridget-Michaele Reischl, the annual competition is open to current composition students in the conservatory. Also performing on the recital are several student chamber ensembles specially selected by members of the conservatory faculty. Works to be performed include selections by Bartok, Brahms, and Bulla.
