FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE May 23, 1995 Lawrence University Concert Choir Presents Chant: A Life Through the Ages APPLETON, WIS. - The Lawrence University Concert Choir, under the direction of conductor Richard Bjella, will explore "Chant: A Life Through the Ages" as the ensemble presents its final concert of the academic year Friday, June 2 at 8 p.m. in the Lawrence Memorial Chapel. University organist George Edward Damp will assist. The event is free and open to the public. The program will include Ovis aeternitatis, by Hildegard von Bingen; Missa Pange Lingua, by Josquin des Pres; and Maurice DuruflUs Requiem. Damp teaches courses in music history, organ and harpsichord. He holds the bachelor of arts degree in music and the master of arts degree in musicology from Cornell University, and the doctor of musical arts degree in organ performance from the Eastman School of Music, where he was a student of Russell Saunders. He is currently organist at Grace Episcopal Church in Sheboygan. Bjella was a national finalist in the conducting symposium held in New York and also has been a conducting fellow at the Bach Festival in Eugene, Oregon. He has guest conducted over 300 different festivals and choral workshops throughout the United States and will be conducting the Wisconsin Ambassador Choir in Europe this summer. The Lawrence Concert Choir has performed with such diverse ensembles as the Musica Sacra, Dave Brubeck and his quartet and the National Choir of Israel.
