Roots: Lawrence University Celebration Commemorates African-American Heritage

APPLETON, WIS. -- Lawrence University commemorates African-American history and cultural with the program "Roots: A Celebration of Black Heritage" Saturday, Feb. 2. The program, which replaces Lawrence's traditional Kwanzaa celebration, will be held in the Buchanan Kiewit Recreation Center beginning at 5:30 p.m.

The student-produced celebration will highlight black history, culture and heritage through skits, readings and musical performances. The program will also feature a dinner of meat and vegetarian dishes.

"This event is an opportunity for our community to engage in a shared experience of celebrating the richness of black heritage," said Rod Bradley, assistant dean of students for multicultural affairs and advisor to Lawrence's Black Organization of Students.

Tickets for "Roots" are $10 for adults, $6 for students/seniors in advance and $12 for adults, $8 students/seniors at the door. Children 12 and younger are $4. For tickets or more information, contact the Lawrence University box office, 920/832-6749.
