Lawrence University Stages Benefit Production of "The Vagina Monologues"
APPLETON, WIS. -- Lawrence University will stage two student-produced benefit performances of Eve Ensler's award-winning play "The Vagina Monologues" Feb. 19-20 in the Lawrence Memorial Chapel. Both performances begin at 7:30 p.m.
Based on more than 200 interviews Ensler conducted with women from around the world, "The Vagina Monologues" is a series of individual stories of women who have overcome adversity and learned to love themselves. First staged in 1996 in New York City, where it earned an OBIE award, the show has since traveled the globe with a rotating cast of leading actresses.
Following each performance, there will be a question-and-answer session with the Lawrence actresses, including information on how to get involved in the fight to stop violence against women.
Tickets for "The Vagina Monologues," at $7 for adults, $5 for students and senior citizens, can be reserved by calling 920/731-6402. Tickets will also be sold at the door the night of the show. All proceeds from the performances will be donated to a local rape crisis center and female genital mutilation prevention charities.
